Antigen-antibody interaction is comparable to the enzyme substrate interaction. The reaction among antigen and antibody occurs in two stages. Primary stage is initial interaction of antigen-antibody devoid of any visible effect .The reaction is speedy and obeys general law of thermodynamics as well as physical chemistry.
The primary stage is followed through the secondary stage leading to demonstrate events such as precipitation, lysis of cells, neutralization of toxins and fixation of compliments etc.
