Assignment -

Introduction: Detailed scenario for a fictional multimedia company, which you are required to read, understand and analyse.

Learning Outcomes to be assessed - Use computational thinking to design solutions to problems.

Detail of the tasks -

1. Facts to consider:

a. Software design involves problem solving, and problem solving involves the generation of alternative solutions to the same problem.

b. Designing new software is the "process of specifying...decomposing subsystems...to meet...specifications".

2. Scenario:

Media4U is a fictional company that is specialised in developing high quality and affordable multimedia software systems to their clients. Given that you work in the Design and Implementation group/department of Media4U, you have been approached by a relatively new organisation based in Liverpool called (VISIT2day) to design a multimedia product as a guide for Liverpool tourists. The guide should be for visitors aged 20-40, easy to use, intuitive and interactive. VISIT2day is not clear on how and where digital media can be used in this new product. Hence, you are to prepare detailed design on the alternatives available to them and the purposes of each alternative to easily identify an option. The contents would need to cover a range of criteria and information to attract more tourists (e.g., shopping centres, eating out, historical sites, entertainment, and tourist attractions). VISIT2day have a limited budget and therefore you should consider this as part of your planning and design. They are keen to include a range of multimedia assets. As part of their internal procedures, VISIT2day requires detailed documentation for all their products and you will therefore need to ensure you comply with their requirements. They require a project development plan; they need visuals and technical information to support the finished product for the clients and the users.

3. Task:

You must prepare and submit a Design Model Report for the above identified multimedia product. Your report must clearly include the following:

a. The identification of goals, objectives, constraints, and the features of the multimedia product in line with the above scenario.

b. The generation of alternatives, (hint: a minimum of two alternatives)

c. Evaluation of alternatives,

d. The selection of an alternative.

You may include storyboards visualisations, navigation/site maps, pseudo-code and diagram techniques, algorithms, classes/objects, and project planning/scheduling. Expected contents will include size, formats, speed (for audio or video), assets and sources, special effects and transitions, template layouts, etc. In brief, your design document must provide sufficient details to allow the product to be developed by any developer.
