1. You must define a clear current issue or event.
2. You must use multiple news sources, at least one or which must be from a non-U.S. Source. The foreign news source must be in/of the region in which your issue/event takes place.
3. You must have an introduction that clearly defines the issue and describes your take on it in the form of an argument.
4. You must analyze the issue in terms of the five disciplinary perspectives of the class, using reference materials. These contexts should not be background or filler material but should be integrated into the argument and support the thesis.
A. Geographic- What are the peoples and places involved in the issue? How are environmental, social and geographical boundaries important?
B. Historical- What is the history of the issue? How did it come to this point?
C. Economic- What economic situations exist between the various actors?
D. Political- What are the stakes involved? What kinds of power are exhibited? Which players are using what kinds of power in pursuit of which stakes?
E. Cultural- What kinds of values do the various groups involved in the issue hold? How is the issue tied to the identities of different kinds of misunderstandings have arisen between the various actors?
