You have just been hired as a Project Manager (a temporary contract poi ion replacing your predecessor) on the Tappan Zee Bridge Replacement effort (see https://www. Newnybridge.com as a reference for the overall 'master' project/program). You report to the Program Manager of this overall 'master' project. Your new assignment is a temporary (three month) contract position on the "External Project Communications" sub-project which has the possibility of becoming a long-term (three year) assignment. You are one of the many Project Managers assigned to this very large program (the other Project Managers responsible for other sub-projects conducted in parallel to your sub-project). Your title is "Project Manager - External Project Communications". Among your responsibilities are:
- Staying well informed of all aspects of the project,
- Keeping the public (external stakeholder well informed of the project plans and of project progress,
- Providing the necessary facilities distribute project information to the public,
- Gathering public feedback while keeping all other TZ Project Managers (internal stakeholders) well informed of this feedback specific to their project focus.
Give your recent inheritance of your predecessor's work effort, you need to quickly evaluate where things are in the project and what project changes (short-term and long-term) you might need to make. Your immediate task (given this is a project already in motion) is to evaluate your area of responsibility for:
1. How your project segment has been organized (staffing and artifacts),
2. The current state of affairs (staffing, budget, procedures, etc.),
3. Changes you need to make immediately (effective "today").
Your next task will be to evaluate project planning/progress to-date, and also re-establish project execution, monitoring and control policies and procedures going forward (considering guidance from the central PMO; i.e. you do not have a blank check to run the project completely on your own).
