You are pulling out onto a road with a speed limit of 29

You are pulling out onto a road with a speed limit of 29 m/s ( 65 mph) and want to see if another car already at constant velocity on the road will hit you while you come up to speed.Your car has a constant acceleration of 3.2 m/s2in the +^x direction and starts with zero velocity.

a) Sketch a position vs time graph that represents both cars motion and that shows the time and position of where a collision would just be avoided.

b) Calculate the minimum distance head start you require for no collision to occur. Remember that having the same position at the same time is the denition of a collision. The value obtained is a good one to keep in mind the next time you pull out onto a high speed road.

A very helpful hint - after you have you have reached 29 m/s there is no possibility of a collision in this situation. Knowing this time makes this problem much easier
