You are a second year student in a two-year dental assisting program with the goal of becoming a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). Once you complete the program, you will be eligible to take the certification exam and if you pass, will hold the credentials of CDA.
Your father was a dentist (he is now retired) and you share his passion for helping people. He also taught you a lot about dentistry and for this reason, you are excelling in your coursework (straight A’s) and the other students often ask you for advice. Your father shared with you that his dental assistant used to know what instrument he needed for a procedure before he even asked and that made him very productive. You are working very hard to make sure you can offer that same value to the dentist you assist.
The last requirement you have before graduation is to complete 120 hours of practical experience within an existing dental practice. As such, your school, Happy Smiles Dental Career Institute, has instructed you to find a dentist who will allow you to work as an unpaid intern to satisfy this requirement. You must complete this internship within the next 6-weeks. You decide to first contact Dr. Frank Painter, owner of Painter Dental Care, because your father said he is the best in the area and would teach you a lot about dentistry. You need to convince Dr. Painter you are the best choice for his next intern.
