Assignment task: After watching the debate parenting is overrated which side do you agree with more? Robert Plomin and Nancy Segal or with Paige Harden and Ann Murphy?
What arguments did you find particularly effective and why?
After watching the debate I am kind of on the fence. I think both sides have valid points but me as a parent I would say that I believe a huge impact on a child's life starts at home. As a parent we mold our children into the things that we believe in from culture, values, religion, and so forth. So what raises a lot of questions in my head for Plomin and Segal's evidence is how were they obtaining their scientific evidence. What was their sample size, who was studied and where I know it was twins but how Paige Harden stated it was majority weird whites, is there any conflict of interest? I guess there are a lot of what ifs as they stated in the video that make me wonder on Plomin's and Segal's argument. Would like to hear other peoples point of views?
