Module Assignment: "Marking and Annotating a Text"
After you have viewed the videos for Module- "Marking a Text" and "Annotating a Text" - practice the strategies that you have learned about by marking and annotating the text assigned by your instructor.
Instructions
Using a hard copy of the assigned text:
• Mark the text of the hard copy.
• Remember to:
o Number the paragraphs
o Circle key terms, sources, and essential information
o Underline information relevant to the reading purpose
• If you feel comfortable doing so, you can also use brackets, labels, and boxes to isolate specific parts of the text
• Annotate the text of the hard copy.
• Remember to:
o Identify the "gist" of the reading selection and write it in the margin next to the paragraph or chunk of text to which it refers
o Write questions in the left margin
o Write additional notes in the right margin
o Write a short summary of the content of the selection
Bring your marked and annotated copy to class and be prepared to share and discuss with your classmates.
