You both need jobs as soon as possible and the Ontario Natural Food Company is hiring candidates for the position of Sales Representative. You have had 3 interviews in the last 3 weeks with other companies. You have received one fairly good job offer of $38,000 and are waiting to hear from the other two companies. Given that you already have a firm job offer you feel that you are in a good position to negotiate but you feel that working at the Ontario Natural Food Company will be more beneficial to you in the long term than at the other company. The average starting salary for this position is around $32, 000 - $42, 000. Your second most important issue in your negotiation is vacation. Your father is very ill and does not live in Canada. You want at least 6 weeks of vacation per year so that you can travel to see him when necessary as you will require time to quarantine after arriving home and then when you re-enter Canada. As managers at a recently established company, you feel that you have a lot more opportunities to offer new salespersons than more established companies do. You like these candidates and feel that you want to have them join your team however you don't have a lot of resources to offer.
Please write a role-play script on a manager and a candidate on the following:
1. Write out your BATNA and ZOPA for your salary (one for the candidates and another for the managers and submit separately).
2. You are only negotiating 2 issues: salary & vacation. Prepare the script with 1 salesperson and 1 manager with sales strategies, Offers, Concessions, and Negotiation strategies.
