After completing the readings from this week, we were able to gain a better understanding of the meaning behind personality and personality theory. Personality is hard to define because there are so many elements that are involved. Our book defines personality as "the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence their interactions with, and adaptations to, the intrapsychic, physical, and social environments" (Larsen & Buss, 2023). This definition proves that personality is not only about studied behaviors, but also examines individuals' internal thoughts, feelings, and their responses over time. Personality can also be explained through the 3 levels of personality. The 3 levels of personality include human nature, individual and group differences, and individual uniqueness. Human nature is the traits and mechanisms of personality that are possessed by almost all human beings. Individual and group differences describe how our traits may differ from those around us. Individual differences could be seen when one individual might like being more physically active, whereas another individual might like to live a sedentary lifestyle.
