Required to choose ONE website to research a communication disorder. Any disorder or disease that results in a communication issue is acceptable-see page 8 and 9 of this syllabus. Note that "Voice Disorders," "Fluency Disorders," "Hearing Disorders," and "Language Disorders" are broad categories and you must choose one disorder within the category. Additionally, "Autism," "Alzheimer's," or "Traumatic Brain Disorder" are not speech/language disorders, however you may choose to learn more about these disorders. If you choose to research one of those conditions you must write about the speech/language characteristics of having such a disorder. Note: Dyslexia is not a communication disorder. If you choose to research a communication disorder and are not sure if it is appropriate for this assignment, discuss the proposed topic with the professor to avoid receiving no points for the assignment.
• The paper you will prepare: (1) Write an introductory paragraph describing the disorder. (2) Next, state/paraphrase ten facts about that disorder. These facts can be bulleted and single spaced. (3) Write a concluding paragraph summarizing the implications of having the disorder. Be sure to include the website in the heading of the paper. This assignment is fact-based - do not include reasons for reviewing this disorder, impressions, emotions, or thoughts about the disorder; only facts.
• Do not use www.wikipedia.com as it is not considered a reliable source of information.
• Additionally, information should not be cut and pasted from the website as that is considered plagiarism and students may be dismissed from the University for engaging in this method of writing a paper. Be sure to include 1) your name, 2) the communication disorder reviewed, and 3 resources, including at least (one) website address. Paragraphs must be double-spaced using 12-point font and papers much have one-inch margins, stapled, and include the appropriate evaluation rubric. Papers are limited to one page in length. Failure to follow the stated guidelines will result in a lowered grade.
