Assignment
This literary seminar is designed to walk you through the planning stages of writing a university level literary essay. The seminar is basically a blueprint of an essay you could write comparing/contrasting the interpretations of close readings by the class of passages from Life of Pi in the previous activity. It will not only prepare you for writing your Independent Study Literary Essay, it will broaden your understanding and appreciation of the literature studied in this Active Reading Unit. You are asked to present your seminar in a multimedia presentation to your peers.
What you must do to complete the seminar:
1. You must complete an outline of your essay, following the template provided below. Your goal in this essay is to examine Life of Pi as a quest story. Therefore, your thesis must incorporate your interpretation with the quest pattern.
2. In your multimedia presentation you must first include the close reading of your passage for your peers to read so they have an understanding of your passage in case it is not the same passage they chose for the previous activity. You will then insert your outline/blueprint of your "essay". If you do not have access to a multimedia processor such as PowerPoint or something similar, you can visit the link below for free trial downloads or you can use your word processor.
3. You may use various features in your presentation such as music, pictures and colour to enhance your presentation but be sure not to make your presentation too "busy". This will take away from your content.
4. You will then be required to upload your presentation to the discussion area for evaluation. The link to the rubric is below.
5. Students are also expected to participate in the forum by commenting on students' seminars. The rubric that will be used for evaluation is the same as the unit's previous activities and can be found below.
