ASSIGNMENT 1 - "COACHING AND MENTORING"
Write a short article of less than 1,000 words on an individual (living or deceased) that demonstrated a great ability to "coach and mentor" others. Discuss the type of leadership style; what made him or her an effective leader, and other distinguishable attributes.
The article must be typed with proper spelling and grammar. We will discuss some of these in class.
Assignment 2 - Book Review
For each book we read, you will write a 3-4 page (12-point font, double-spaced) paper connecting your reading in some way to content covered in class.
Book - The Indian Great Awakening - Religion and the Shaping of Native Cultures in Early America by Linford D. Fisher
• Provides a new framework for understanding religious conversion.
• Brings together strands of Native history that are not often considered together: religion, land, use of the court system, and local intratribal politics.
• Argues that the Great Awakening was not as formative in the lives of Natives (or as widely embraced) as previously assumed.
