Assgnment: Research Paper On Institutional Racism
Students will write a 2 pages research paper on a contemporary social issue. First tracing the issue to a historical precedent such as colonialism. Then discuss the issue in its contemporary context. Students are required to use three sources and prepare a powerpoint presentation. See the below list of sample research topics:

1. The assigned paper is 2 pages
2. This paper should be heavily based on research using academic level resources such as peer-reviewed journal articles, essays, and books written by scholars. For example, see publishing companies like Harvard University Press. Do not use novels, googled web pages, social media articles or videos. These may be used as additions to your research but not as the academic sources themselves.
3. Students will use a minimum of three academic sources.
4. The paper is to use a professional citation method such as Chicago or MLA style. I will post a shorthand quick guide of how to do this. Include a bibliography at the end of the paper using a professional citation style.
5. Have a thesis statement, written clearly and succinctly in the first paragraph of your paper. Please support this statement throughout each succeeding paragraph.
6. Remember to somehow connect the modern issue of your choosing to its historical precedent, colonialism!
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
