The never ending thirst for knowledge is a trait unique to humankind. It differentiates us from other creatures and is the cause for our development. The technology of writing played a central role in assisting man in his pursuit of knowledge. Development of writing enabled man to record his observations and experiences, thus allowing him to transfer information in a non- verbal manner. Thus, information could be stored for generations and knowledge loss due to loss of memory was no longer an issue.
