It is the final research paper of Sports and public spectacles in the ancient world. for this, the sample topics would be, medern olympians stripped of their medals, intersections between modern politics and public spectacles, how football related to ancient spectacles.
Final Project Assignment
Your final project may be any of the following. Try to keep it to roughly 1000 words. Please use 12-point Times New Roman font, single-spaced.
Creative options
1. Write a Pindaric ode celebrating a modern athlete. In one additional page (1 full page, single-spaced), explain what you have included and why, with attention to ancient ideals and epinikian models.
2. Pick an ancient Greek city that we have not focused on. Create a Panhellenic festival for this location. Describe what events will be held, the patron god, the foundation myth, prizes, and anything else appropriate. Explain the reasons for your choices, with reference to ideas from this course.
3. Take on the role of an editor in ancient Rome and plan your own munera. What do you include? How do you arrange it? Explain the significance of each element with reference to ideas from this course.
4. After reading Ovid's Ars Amatoria, write up a short suggestion for picking up someone at a modern sporting event. Discuss why these spots are popular for potential romance, with comparisons to ancient Roman parallels. Explain the significance of sport and/or spectacle for all of your decisions, with reference to ideas from this course.
Research option
Pick a topic that interests you, and find scholarly resources that address the question. Make a clear argument and cite your sources. Please discuss your topic with me and/or the TAs beforehand, as we can help you narrow your focus. The paper should be 1000 to 1200 words.
