Assignment - Module Reflection - My Writing Process

This week's reflection coincides with the persuasive essay you will be finishing next week. So far, what has helped you improve your writing in general and your persuasive writing in particular?

Persuasive essay writing can be defined as writing in which the writer has to use logic and make arguments to support the points. In persuasive essay writing the facts and evidence are to be provided from reliable sources so that to make the essay more substantial. Persuasive writing is often different from argumentative writing as here one needs to choose only a single side and make arguments so that the reader gets convinced and supports your argument.

The topic that is required for persuasive writing should be polemical by nature which means that it should be emphasizing a specific point of view, no generalized or expository topics should be chosen. The persuasive essay can only be good if the author personally supports the arguments as the writer need to inspire the reader such that the reader doesn't even long for looking at explanation to counter-arguments on the subject. The structure of a persuasive essay should be understood where it should state a thesis within the introduction, it should be coupled with multiple pieces of evidence to support the argument.

The counter-arguments should also be given but the writer should clearly state why those counter-arguments are disagreeable. The essay should be ended with a conclusion and it should be such that it persuades the reader to further think about your subjects. The introduction of the essay should suggest the ideas stating the problem and reasons due to which the readers should keep reading the essay.

It serves as providing a hook to the readers and keeps them focused throughout the reading. It is important for the sources taken to support the argument are scholarly as they are peer-reviewed and have citations in them. To make an argument in persuasive essay writing, there should be reasonable ground over which the reader can relate himself and the sources for work provided should also convince the reader that the facts are not misleading. There should be both rational and emotional elements within the essay to make it sensible. The persuasive writing should have ethos, logos, and pathos where ethos stands for the use of authoritative resources for supporting the argument. The pathos stands for focus on the values and morals of the readers as it is important to leave an impact. The logos stand for the use of evidence and logic to support ethos and pathos within the essay. These points provide a clear position to a writer while writing a persuasive essay.
