Professional organizations have ethical codes of conduct. Specifically the ACM and IEEE have published ethics/codes of conduct for their members. However, not all IS practitioners are members of these organizations. There have been calls for a universal code of ethical conduct for those involved in Information Technology. This would be similar to the Professional Engineering, or the Legal or Medical fields. It would carry with it a license and regulations for compliance. An individual could loose their license for violations, just as you can in law, medicine and engineering.
Take a position on one side of the other of this issue. " We should have/not have an enforced ethical code of conduct for IS professionals through some sort of licensing method".
