Most people write the scientific paper in this order: 1) Results (figures then text), 2) Materials and Methods, 3) Discussion, 4) Introduction, 5) Abstract, 6) Title, and 7) Literature Cited. We will discuss the sections of a paper in that order.

Results

  • State what you found about the distribution of eucalyptus on the west and east sides of the trail; uniform, random or clumped? Fill in the table below with the values from your calculations:
  • State what you found about the distance between trees on the east side and their sizes. Make sure to cite statistics appropriately in the text. Insert your scatterplot, including an informative caption for your figure.

Discussion

  • Why do you think the distributions on the east versus west sidesdid or didn't differ? What processes might have caused the patterns of dispersion you observed? On the east side, did distance between trees predict their sizes? Is the pattern consistent with your predictions based on intraspecific competition? Are there other processes that might have contributed to this pattern?
