Essay: Argue against the practice of Animal Testing
- For this assignment, you will need to write a formal essay (title, introduction - including a thesis statement, supporting arguments, and conclusion) of at least 1,200 words arguing for the morality or immorality of some ethical issue.
You may choose any ethical issue that you wish (some examples - drugs, war, cloning, immigration, euthanasia, artificial intelligence, etc.) but make sure that you are presenting an argument aimed at determining the moral status of this action or issue. You should appeal to an ethical theory or moral principle to help establish your claims. You must use outside research that includes at least four philosophers (cite academic, peer-reviewed sources). This is how you will provide justified reasons to support your position. You must email me your topic before you begin working for approval.
Your essay should be set up as follows:
- Introduction (which includes a thesis statement telling your reader what you hope to show or attempt to prove with your essay; is your action or issue permissible?)
- Put forward an argument
- Begin by explaining the problem or issue
- Make sure you define key terms
- After you develop and support your positive argument, consider the other side
- How would someone object to your view?
- Respond to (overcome) the objection
- Provide a conclusion
- Reaffirm your thesis without merely restating content
- Avoid introducing new ideas in your conclusion
- Avoid ending your essay in a question
