In the first half of the 19th century, the economy was very unstable and pushed Americans to strive for perfection both physical and metaphysical. In 500 words, give three examples that reflect this desire for perfection. (Think physical, cultural, religious, social). Finally, if you had lived through the 19th century, would you have adopted any of these cultural practices or joined a new religion? Why or why not?
