Topic: Write a 2-3 page analytical response to a scholarly article of your choice. This article must cover one one of the works of literature.
To complete this assignment, you must first research a SCHOLARLY essay using a database found in the NVCC library online.
• Be sure to select an article on a work of literature from the UNIT V, VI, or VII reading list.
• Be sure to select an article that discusses a work of literature that you are confident you understand.
• Be sure the article has a clear and specific thesis (or claim) that you comprehend, that it makes a cogent argument that you "get".
• Be sure the article argues a thesis to which you have a definite critical response. (Note: merely "agreeing with the writer" will ensure that your best grade will be a "C".) Be sure to review the rubric posted below
The essay should have TWO parts:
1. A 1-2 paraaraph summary of the araument presented in the essay: this section should begin with a clear signal phrase, and then state the thesis of the essay. It should then fairly summarize the main parts of the writer's argument.
2. Your own critical response to the argument: this section should begin with a clear topic sentence that agrees with, disagrees with, or qualifies the thesis of the writer's argument, and then should explain your reasoning in 2-3 organized paragraph
3. REMEMBER: your focus is the argument in your source. not the work of literature or the author is discusses.

1. Before this paper will be accepted for arade by your instructor each student must complete the Research Questionnaire.
2. You must select a FULL TEXT scholarly essay one that makes an argument: book reviews, interviews, summaries, or excerpts of articles will not be accepted for grade.
3. BE SURE TO SELECT A WORK FROM A SCHOLARLY JOURNAL OF LITERATURE OR LITERARY STUDIES: if you do not understand this requirement, then be sure to consult an NVCC librarian.
