Why you thought it was important to get the information

Problem: Creating a Student Survey

I. Collaborate with your mentor teacher to identify a lesson that includes an opportunity for a technology-based assessment and that you can implement during Clinical Field Experience C. The lesson can be one you develop or that has been developed by the mentor teacher.

Research technology-based assessment tools that you can implement as part of or following the lesson and talk with your mentor teacher about the tools you are considering for use. Some questions to discuss with your mentor and to consider when selecting a tool include:

i. What student outcomes am I trying to measure, and does the tool help me accomplish it?
ii. Is this tool age appropriate and engaging for my students?
iii. What type of data will the tool provide me?

Collaborate with your mentor teacher to finalize the lesson, including specifying the technology-based assessment tool you will be implementing. You may use any lesson plan template provided by the district, school, or mentor teacher with whom you are completing your practicum experience. If your district, school, or mentor teacher does not provide one or have one available to use, the "COE Lesson Plan Template" is available to you in the Student Success Center.

Use any remaining time to observe and/or assist your mentor teacher or another teacher and work with an individual or small group of students on instruction in the classroom.

II. Eliciting feedback about technology-based assessment tools from students can provide you with valuable insight about the effectiveness of the assessment and use of the tool from the student user's perspective. It can also help the student engage more in the assessment process and develop their capacity to set goals and communicate their own progress and learning.

Research various types of digital survey tools that are appropriate for use with students in the mentor teacher's classroom. Using the survey tool of your choice, create 2-4 questions that can be quickly and easily administered to students in the classroom. You will administer this survey to students after you teach the lesson and implement the technology-based assessment tool in Clinical Field Experience C. The purpose of your survey is to gain student feedback about the technology-based assessment tool, how it was used in the lesson, and how students can use the information from the tool to set goals and/or evaluate their own progress and learning.

After you have developed the survey questions, share the survey with your mentor teacher and discuss the following:

i. Explain why you selected the survey tool.

ii. Review each of the survey questions and explain why you thought it was important to get this information from students. Include discussion about how use of the survey and assessment tool can engage learners in the assessment process and develop their capacity to set goals and communicate their own progress and learning.

iii. Describe the type of data you expect to be generated from the student survey responses.

iv. Explain how you will use the data from the student survey responses to inform future lessons.
