Problem: Recruitment and Selection
Assume that you are a manager working in Africa. The supervisor reporting to you has a job opening in the marketing department. The supervisor tells his family and friends about the job, and receives many applications. In reviewing the applications with him, you realize that the supervisor knows everyone who is applying. You try to discuss the advantages of posting the job vacancy widely to identify the most qualified candidates. The supervisor argues that this is how it is done in Africa, and besides, "Why would you hire a stranger when you could hire someone you know well"? What would you do about this situation?
