Why you feel that it is important to discuss diversity

Assignment:

The subject of race can be very touchy. As finance executive Mellody Hobson says, it's a "conversational third rail." But, she says, that's exactly why we need to start talking about it. In this engaging, persuasive talk, Hobson makes the case that speaking openly about race - and particularly about diversity in hiring - makes for better businesses and a better society.

The past six weeks we have talked about conflict, gender, sexuality, race, privilege, and much more. We have dared each other to be vulnerable and opened up to incredibly tough subjects. And, now it is really important to truly take some time to pause and think on why did we all of that and why it is important to address diversity. Take some time to watch the above Ted Talk from Mellody Hobson.

After you watch the Ted Talk, take a look at this Huffington Post piece by Mandy Hitchcock. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.As you think about your next steps, think in terms of not only in your professional life, but perhaps personal as well.
