Why we have the behavioral disorders and cognitive delays

Discussion Post

One of the things that I found very interesting this week, while preparing for the discussion post was the structure of the brain itself. I have never actually taken the time to study the brain so using the supplementary links, I was able to learn how the brain works and operates. I was very intrigued with learning the seven different lobes in the brain and how they are intertwined. I appreciate it learning how the frontal lobe works with the temporal lobes to store, short-term memories and retrieve long-term ones.

Another thing I found interesting this week in our reading was how messages were sent through the nervous system using neurons. These messages are responsible for conveying movement throughout our body, as well as relaying pain signals to the brain.

The third thing that I appreciate it this week was learning the Messages relay at different speeds to our brain. It made me think of how when we are struggling to recall something it's because the message is not being sent to our brain fast enough.

Learning about the brain is very helpful in psychology because it helps us identify some of the reasons why we have these behavioral disorders and cognitive delays. When we study the brain, we are learning the different parts, and how they work together so this can help us to understand where there is an unbalance, or a part that is missing, which could cause some of these behavioral disorders.
