Why was priam successful-despite being the enemy and father

Both Agamemnon and Priam have embassies to Achilles that attempt to change his mind: the first, to bring him into the war; the second, to return the body of his son, Hector, to him. Agamemnon's embassy fails, while that of Priam succeeds. Why was Priam successful-despite being the enemy and father of the one who killed Patroclus-whereas Agamemnon-Achilles's ally and king-was not?
