Why there is a filipino nation

Problem:

If the Spaniards did not come to the Philippines beginning in the 16 Century, many suggested that Mindanao could be part of Malaysia, Luzon would be part of China and the existence of smaller republics in the Visayas, and there would then be no 'Filipino nation' if the Spain did not colonize these islands. With this, what do you think then is the basis of the existence of the Filipino nation that we have today? Is it because that in more than 7,000 islands of the archipelago from Batanes to Jolo, the people shared common language, common origin, similar values, and rooted from the same ethnic group? Would you agree on any of this as the strongest reason why there is a Filipino nation?
