Assignment: Common Core Handout to Parents
Pretend that you are a teacher at a school that is entering its first year using the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). You have been tasked with creating a handout that provides an overview of CCSS to be sent out to parents of students at the beginning of the school year. Assume that the parents have no knowledge of CCSS or what these mean for their children. Create this handout, worded in such a way that it is easy to understand for parents and that speaks directly to parents.
This handout should be at least 500 words in length and should include information on the following:
• General description of Common Core
• Why states choose to use Common Core (in other words, what are the purported benefits of using Common Core?)
• What using Common Core means for their children in terms of changes in curriculum, assessments, and report cards?
