Problem:
Social And cultural situation are important in developing any kind of relationship, particularly between client and therapist. There are a few social orientations that I have to consider to be important in the case of Dr. Sarah Bellum. The main consideration is the historic quality of Dr. Bellum's training. There is a lack of social awareness present as Dr. Bellum went 640 years using the same training first given as a graduate, not considering the changes not only within law, procedures, and standards but the changes within society. In essence she would be culturally and socially uninformed of the needs of the people she serves. However, the continued use of training can be due to a lack of available resources and the ability to financially afford the resource once given the opportunity to. Additionally, Dr. bellum's use of the outdated training could be related to a cultural preference as the method could align with values and practices traditionally used within her culture. Furthermore, it is imperative to address the injury sustained by the client and how that injury has affected the client; it is unclear whether this injury has caused permanent damage such as a disability. An improper diagnosis by an under-trained individual in this situation can be presumed as bias or discrimination, even if not intentionally. It would be pertinent as a psychologist who often works with people of different social and cultural backgrounds to ensure that all certifications and licensures were kept up to date to reflect the current times social and cultural expectation.
