Why should the works be repatriated

Colonialism Discussion

During the time when India was part of the British empire, many paintings and other works of Indian art were collected by Westerners. The current location of those artworks, as you will have noticed, is now in the West: the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Smithsonian, among others.

Should these works be repatriated? Some of the works; all of the works? Do you consider them to have been "stolen"? Or "saved"? Why? Are we in the West morally responsible for the cultural harms resulting from colonialism?

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
