Although it can be burned for heat or energy, the fuel has been known to explode occasionally if improperly handled. It is odorless, colorless, and poisonous; you cannot see it escaping from a malfunctioning valve and filling your house. Not surprisingly, this fuel kills about 400 Americans per year.
