You are working as an alcohol and other drugs (AOD) support worker and have begun to see a new client, Fatima. Fatima was recently admitted into the emergency department due to her alcohol and other drugs (AOD) misuse. It is not the first time Fatima was admitted for this reason. Before she was discharged, a nurse did a brief intervention with her and referred Fatima to your organisation. After working with Fatima for a period of several weeks, and consulting with other relevant parties, you have decided another intervention is required. Fatima is culturally, and linguistically diverse as English is not her first language. She is a 46-year-old refugee from the country of Palestine. She has been living in Australia for 20 years but still has trouble understanding parts of the Australian language, especially slang. Because of this, Fatima has some difficulty understanding you and comprehending some of the information you present to her.
After the intervention, Fatima has decided she wants to stop misusing AOD. However, you have determined she needs additional help from external services.
