Why president eisenhower interested in destiny of southeast

Assignment task:

Topic - Why was President Eisenhower so interested in the destiny of Southeast Asia?

Eisenhower had the ability to see that loss of these small countries to Communism would be a big loss indeed. I wonder if he had the foresight to see how difficult it would be to win these wars for democracy for the countries. It seems like he really struggled and deliberated how supportive to be for military action in those Southeast Asian countries and it makes me wonder if he appreciated that it may be impossible to pull off. What are your thoughts?
