Why personality becomes more vivid overtime

Problem: Do you agree with the statement that Sigurth is a greater hero than his father? Having power and dominance over your children is a common theme in these past weeks readings so its interesting that Sigurth has the upper hand over his father. Do you think that he wanted to slay a dragon for the riches or for the feel of accomplishment and honor?  Was this a plan all along from Regin to get his brother killed? Sigurth hiding in a pit instead of facing Fafnir face-face is sort of cowardly. A true hero puts his actions before his people to protect them. A noble hero only kills or seeks violence on somewhen when it is due. The act of saving Brynhild is a noble mans act. I would be curious to hear your elaboration on why his personality becomes more vivid overtime. Are the shorting's of his relationships due to him or others or a combination?

Edith Hamilton's text has a section on Norse mythology. If you are interested in reading more, see "Part Seven: The Mythology of the Norsemen" on pp. 442 to 465.
