I honestly think that the second amendment guarantees the right to self-defense with a gun. The Bill of rights is supposed to protect "the people" from a government that may have gained too much power. I think that the founding father's would try to protect people's rights to defend themselves from other people or the government. Getting rid of the Second amendment would be nice as it would guarantee no more mass shootings and gun violence, but there will never be 0 guns. People who would have an advantage of owning a gun illegally would cause more destructions with their gun in a place where the people did not have the right to own a gun. I do not like guns, I never have understood the need for guns, but the simple fact that they exist makes it prevalent for everyone to have the right to them. Imagine a country where only government officials and military were allowed to have a gun, the people would be at a severe disadvantage against the government if it were to become corrupt. The Second amendment guarantees our safety against a corrupt government. With all that being said, I know that we need tighter gun laws. I should not be able to buy a gun from Walmart without any training or background check.
