How and why would the use of data modeling software improve the development of data models for an organization?
Data modeling software improves the development of data models by laying out what is needed for an organization and the many departments of data that is necessary for it and how best to execute it all. Many tools are used to interpret data that may not be in non-database formats, so it is easier to have the input of many factors when modeling (Erwin Inc., 2016). More time is spent on the data itself and finding what is needed and less on collecting and organize data from multiple areas. Web based portals provides information where the communication can manage the information and express it to the many users. Collaboration is necessary, and so modeling software can allow the creation of visual models, storage of core data definitions, and publishing of data models to receive feedback on.
Why must these steps be addressed before the design begins?
Centralized viewing of all important data at once can boost efficiency and minimize errors. If modeling is used to create, store, change, and communicate to others then the design aspect will go smoother and have a higher chance to be successful in modeling a system. Changes cannot be made once designing has begun so if modeling for the right system is used, all questions can be answered by all involved in the organization and the correct model and system can thus be made.
