Why lowering reading level of newspapers increase readers

Problem 1: In the 1940s and 1950s, readability experts Robert Gunning and Rudolph Flesch worked with newspapers to help them lower the "average reading level of the newspapers from the 12thgrade to the 9th grade" ("What's with the Newspapers," 2005, para. 15). This resulted in an increase in readership. In your opinion, why would lowering the reading level of newspapers increase the number of readers?

Problem 2: Have you received a document from a company or organization that contains grammatical errors and incorrect information? Did it change the way you viewed the organization? If yes, explain the change in your perception.
