Why it i very important for social workers to facilitate

Problem:

After reading the article, it's very important for social workers to facilitate and utilize the strengths-based approach when working with individuals that have experienced trauma or loss especially children and teenagers. Utilizing mindfulness interventions helps individuals to feel peace and alleviate suffering (Lougheed, 2019). Based on the article, I believe the two most impactful MBI interventions are arts-based group activities and practicing mindfulness. Children aging out of the welfare system tend to struggle with the "what's next" step for their lives and teaching them the art of mindfulness will help them to improve their emotional regulation, increase motivation, and their overall awareness of their inner self. Focusing on strengths-based group work helps others feel that they are not alone in their experiences. Lougheed (2019) highlights the benefits of group work such as "improving emotional regulation, increased optimism, sleep hygiene, and social support."

I will be running my own strengths-based support group at a stage four breast cancer retreat at the end of the month. I am using a strengths-based approach by emphasizing what the women value and appreciate about themselves rather than concentrating on the grief or losses associated with their diagnosis. Another suggestion would be to incorporate a form of mindfulness such as mindful observation or a loving-kindness meditation by having the women repeat phrases of compassion towards themselves or others.
