Why is the personeventplace etc inherently interesting-

This is history paper.

Write about 1000 - 1200 words.

My topic: The Haymarket Riots

The final stage of project will bring together your research in a 1000-1200 word blog format posting (if you are typing this in Word or similar program first, that's about four pages double spaced, but go by the word count).

First, what should you include? Post should answer the following questions (and please do not shape your essay to just check off this list. This is meant to guide your thinking on what to achieve over the course of the essay). Have a real introduction, paragraphs that develop the theme, and a conclusion. It's an essay, not answers to a questionnaire):

1) Why is the person/event/place (etc.) inherently interesting?

2) What is the key information that we need to know about the person/event/place (etc.)?

3) What aspect of the person/event/place (etc.) are you focusing on in your essay (for example, you would not do the whole life of Louis XIV)?

4) How does the person/event/place (etc.) fit into the history of the cities we are studying or the history of urban development?

Also, remember that you don't have to include everything you've read on the topic. Sometimes this might mean leaving a good tidbit aside (do we need to know which concession stand at Wrigley has the best hot dogs?), not interjecting your own experience (I'm glad you had fun at the London Eye, but isn't this paper about Big Ben?) just to fill space, and not giving us the whole history of the place (for example, maybe you are doing just the debate on whether to put lights in at Wrigley. We don't need to know how sad you are about the NLCS this year).

Second, please make sure that you include your list of resources at the end. As your write, you should also cite your resources (Smith, XX), or (coolwebpagesonPAris.fr) or whatever it happens to be.

Just as a reminder.

Cite in the following instances:
Quotations must be identical to the original, using a narrow segment of the source. They must match the source document word for word and must be attributed to the original author.

Paraphrasing involves putting a passage from source material into your own words. A paraphrase must also be attributed to the original source. Paraphrased material is usually shorter than the original passage, taking a somewhat broader segment of the source and condensing it slightly.

Summarizing involves putting the main idea(s) into your own words, including only the main point(s). Once again, it is necessary to attribute summarized ideas to the original source. Summaries are significantly shorter than the original and take a broad overview of the source material.

Just cutting and pasting from your sources, especially without quotations, is not writing, and opens you to the charge of plagiarism (and potentially failing the assignment).

Third, you can (but not must by any means) put in links as you write to interesting articles, videos, etc., and you may be able to put in artwork or pictures (you'll have to play around with this in Blackboard. It's not nearly as easy as in something like Word. It is not required, but if you are feeling creative, go at it).

As with any essay, it should be clearly written and organized with an argument/thesis and logical development. It should also be proofread.

The assignment is the week of November 28th-DEc. 4th. Please, please, please write it in Word or something similar first so that you can edit it, and this is key, not accidently lose it while writing. "My website timed out" won't be a valid reason not to have it in on time as it is an avoidable problem.

5. You should found academic article or journal

I gave two sources. You should use two sources that I gave you and you have to find three more academic sources. So, you should use at least five sources.
