Why do you think that it is so hard for an organization and its leaders to objectively assess their own distinct incompetencies and their real distinct competencies? Please explain why it is critical in this step that outside assistance be sought. In addition, please explain how the Porter Value Chain Model might be helpful in looking at all the parts of the organization (and not just the good ones). Please provide examples in your place of work of things that the leaders think they do particularly well, but, in fact, they really aren't significantly and tangibly better than other competitors (and therefore, not a distinct competency). Please provide examples of weaknesses that rise to the level of a distinct incompetency yet your organization is unable to recognize.
