Problem
I. One theme that emerges in many of the previous readings is a sense of belonging in a community and how important it is to the human experience. Using at least three of the works from the Community units from two different humanities disciplines (for example, the Bruce Springsteen music video), explain how they demonstrate the need to belong to something bigger than ourselves. Use specific examples from the works you select.
II. A tension exists in the human condition about the need for inclusiveness to build community versus the tendency to exclude others from the community. Several of the works in the two Community units explore this tension. Select at least one of the readings about belonging and one work about isolation or exclusion from different humanities disciplines and explain how these ideas work together to help us understand human nature. Why do we need to belong yet also need to make others feel they do not? Use specific examples from the works you select.
