Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) is a national standardized survey tool developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) to collect data used for measuring patients perceptions of hospital care based of a scoring system of a core set of questions. HCAHPS is a survey designed to analyze information about patient perspectives that allows comparison of hospitals on topics important to consumers, develops initiatives to improve hospital care, and public reporting increases transparency and accountability.
