Why do organizations focus so much on individual giving

This week's readings provide an overview of some of the dimensions of the nonprofit sector, both in the United States and internationally.

Please respond to the following discussion questions:

1. Given the fact that private giving, which includes individual giving, turns out to be a relatively small portion of nonprofit revenue, why do organizations focus so much on individual giving campaigns? Are there other benefits, beyond the financial, to focusing on individuals?

2. The nonprofit sector pays a fair wage for office and administrative support personnel, one which is somewhere between what the private and public sectors pay. The sector also employs a higher percent of female employees and has a greater prevalence of wage equity than the private sector. Why do you feel that this might be the case? Is there a connection back to the values of the nonprofit sector?

3. What questions do you have about the case study? Please read the article and share your thoughts on what makes a good case study. You can also look for sample case studies online.
