Why do jails have a large suicide problem

Question: Give a peer response to this text Why do jails have a large suicide problem? This is a question I have never really thought about before, but I think it would be because people battling depression or losing hope. After doing some research I found that jails have a large suicide problem because people often face a first-time "shock of confinement" (Chammah & Meagher, 2015). Meaning that they are stripped of things like their job, family, and home. I also found that suicide risk is increased by the shame of incarceration, fear of the unknown, fear of inmates, and relationship stressors (Office of Justice Programs). I think a good way of lowering the suicide rates would be to have a mental health specialist check in on the inmates and conduct some type of mental health screening. Need Assignment Help?
