Corinne accepted an internship at what the recruiter and the GM said was a great, service- oriented hotel. Corinne's main goal and priority for the summer was to learn all that she could about top-flight operations so that she could use her experience to get an even better job next summer. She was excited about starting the new job and working her hardest. But Corinne's attitude changed after about a month on the job, and she started to slack off. She found that housekeepers weren't cleaning the rooms very well and that the supervisors didn't care, because they were more concerned with the time it took to clean the rooms. Moreover, the vacuum cleaners are very old, heavy, and do not work well anymore, so the carpet is never quite clean. Additionally, the bellmen only gave good service to the people that they "thought might have some money," and the front desk employees frequently took breaks, even during periods where lots of guests were arriving. At the end of the summer, Corinne thought that she had wasted her summer and that she hadn't accomplished her goal at all.
First explain what was effective and/or ineffective about Corinne's goal.
