Why can bacteria infect your cells


You are studying for your BIOL 101 class and you start to have a scratchy feeling in the back of your throat. After a few days it hurts to swallow, so you go to the doctor. The doctor tells you that you have "strep throat". This means that you are infected with many Streptococcal bacteria. You consider the fact that you are a multicellular eukaryotic organisms, and bacteria are prokaryotes. Why can bacteria infect your cells, but you cant infect the bacteria?
