• What is one?
Presenting your personal statement gives you the opportunity to tell someone about yourself, your goals, experiences, inspirations and aspirations. It is a more elaborate ‘elevator speech'. It is your way of standing out during the application process for grad school or employment.
• Answer the following questions in standard essay format:
1. Why are you interested in your chosen major/field?
2. What is your ultimate goal in your chosen field?
3. What is special or unique about you or your life story?
4. What significant detail or issue of your life (problems, people, or events) most shaped or influenced you?
5. Have you had to overcome any unusual obstacles or hardships (such as economic, familial, or physical)?
6. What is one personal characteristic (such as dependable, compassionate, trustworthy) you clearly possess? Can you prove this by sharing a personal story when you displayed this characteristic?
7. What is one skill (such as verbal communication, task management, research analytics) you possess? Can you prove that you have this skill by sharing a work or educational experience where you used it?
8. Why should you be chosen over another candidate?
