Who should be responsible for making educational decisions

Discussion: Educational spending: brains can't be bought.

Americans seem to have bought into the controversial theory that increased government spending is the solution to low academic achievement. Can federal and state spending really solve our educational problems or are there other solutions to the problem? Who should be responsible for making educational decisions?

The United States spends, on average, over $9,000 per student in the public educational system. This is the third highest amount spent by any country in the world. Only Switzerland and Norway spend more per student. In spite of these huge costs, the USA lags behind nations who only spend a fraction of what we spend on public education.

Is increased spending the solution to improving educational achievement?
