Discussion 1: After engaging in your own independent research online, post the names of three artists (not writers or musicians, but rather, visual artists such as painters, sculptors, and so forth) that you think were the most influential during the 1960s. For each of the artists that you discuss, please post a URL that we can link up to to take a look at their work. Then, offer a brief commentary about why each of them is particularly influential.
Be sure to answer all of the questions in the thread in an in-depth, well-thought-out manner (150-200 words). Make at least one reference to the course material. Engage in on-going, productive conversation with a minimum of two of your classmates throughout the unit. Remember that we will learn more by sharing ideas. Your grade will be based on how well your posts further the discussions by stimulating thought and understanding in others.
Discussion 2: Popular culture (music, books, visual art, and clothing) during the 1960s has been labeled "psychedelic." After engaging in your own independent research, (and posting any relevant URLs that you think we should examine!) explain which type of popular culture seemed to be the most influential in the psychedelic movement. For example, did psychedelic popular culture first originate with music, books, or the styles of clothing? Please justify your response.
